Struggling with infertility can be like being slapped in the face, over and over again. You’re up and then you’re knocked down again. This week our mid-week tip is to take a step out of your reality and get creative.
Some of our meditations that we teach in the Mind Body Program for Fertility involve some lovely imagery, and our participants often remark on how they love that time out of reality for a while. Somewhere to go that is calm and peaceful.
So this week why not try taking a curious trip into your imagination? We’re not talking about daydreaming. We mean deliberately take between 5-10mins for yourself. Find a quiet place to sit, somewhere you can close your eyes. Be comfortable but not too comfortable you will fall asleep, after all the aim of this exercise is to tune into creativity, not counting sheep.
When you are comfortable withyour eyes closed, spend a minute just tuning into your breath. Notice the breath moving in and moving out, not having to manipulate it in any way, just observing it. Once you feel you have your focus imagine you are in your favourite space. That may be a space in your house or garden, it may be in the park or at the beach, it may be in another country. Somewhere where you feel peaceful, calm, without a care in the world. Wherever you would like to be, imagine yourself there. Then start imagining the surroundings, the colours you might see, the sounds you would hear if you were there. What would others be doing? Tune in to all that makes this space special for you. Allow yourself to get lost in that space for a while, disregarding the demands of the day, paying no attention to sounds that may distract you. Lose yourself in your favourite space and allow it to fill your imagination.
Then after perhaps 5-10mins, gently start to tune back in to the sounds in your present. Start to wriggle your fingers and your toes and get back into your body here and now. Gently open your eyes and go about your day taking that sense of your favourite space with you.
